Vice President Northern Region - Professor Aila Rissanen

Professor Rissanen graduated as Doctor of Medicine from Helsinki University Medical School, and obtained her PhD from same University. She earned specialist degrees in internal medicine and clinical nutrition from the Universities of Helsinki and Gothenburg. After academic appointments in Finland, Sweden and the US, she has since 1991 been Head of the Obesity Research Unit at the Helsinki University Central Hospital. She also holds the positions of Senior Consultant at the Department of Psychiatry as well as Medical Advisor to the Social Security Institution of Finland.

Professor Rissanen is a member of many several Scientific Advisory Committees, national and international medical and scientific societies, and the editorial boards of several medical journals. She has published 200 scientific articles about obesity, diabetes, nutrition and eating disorders.
